My first one I purchased for a RL1100 9mm setup. As mentioned in someone else's comment, the plastic insert I had needed to be sanded down a bit to get it to drop freely. Good engineering and debugging challenge but works great now. Second one I purchased for my 1050 5.56 setup because I liked...

Fast delivery, great quality product. Easy setup, doesn’t beep, if there is no case in station and fine tuning, are big advantages of product. Very satisfied with purchase.

Awesome powder checker. I have been impressed with this model. I borrowed a Dillion model from a friend when using titegroup and found this model. Once you get the sensitivity set. It is right on the money. No annoying false alarms. It only goes off when it is over or under like it is suppose...

I have 2 tool heads (9mm and 40 S&W) for my Dillon XL750 machine, and this powder check is on both. Just follow the instructions and it installs and calibrates in a couple of minutes. Once installed and adjusted to your powder charge, it works flawlessly. I've loaded 10,000 rounds between my 2...

An almost perfect design. Can't give 5 stars because the magnet is so powerful it is attracting the steel inserts in other dies and failing to drop back down. I have to tap the rod that holds the magnet in order to get the powder check to reset.

Installed on Lee Loadmaster - works great. Loading 9mm w/ Titegroup. Ran many tests - 100% on No-Load and Double Load. But +/- 1.6gr it did not catch - but that's not something I expected it to do. IMHO, way better than Powder Cop or Lock-out Die. All Double Alpha stuff I have so far is great. I...

DAA Magnetic Powder Check

(31)
Manufacturers: Double-Alpha Academy

Description:

Please note:

The current design of the new XL750 does not allow the bullet dropper to be positioned in station #4 of the toolhead because of the angle at which the powder Dispenser bar extends directly towards it. This means the bullet dropper MUST be positioned immediately after the powder dropper, in station #3. That makes it impossible to use a Powder-Check AND a bullet dropper at the same time.

We will attempt to come up with a solution to allow the powder dropper to be rotated to another angle to resolve this issue, but at the moment, be aware of this issue.

The DAA Magnetic Powder Check (US Pat. Pending) is a great addition to any progressive reloading machine, helping to ensure the quality and safety of your reloaded ammo.

The unique new design uses a high-tech Reed Sensor and a magnet assembled to the plunger Rod, to assess if the charge in the case is of the correct height.

This original design also provides, for the first time, an adjustability option. By bringing the Reed Sensor closer or further from the magnet, you can determine how forgiving the powder checker will be, or how much of a range of variance in the powder level should be acceptable without sounding the alarm. At its most sensitive, the accepted height variance is about 2mm, which correlates to a powder error of less than +-0.5 grain. More than sufficient to pick up any of the mistakes we are checking for, such as a double-charge, debris in the case or a case without powder.

With the turn of a screw you can increase the acceptable range by distancing the sensor inside the electrical box, making the Powder Checker more forgiving and less likely to sound alarms you may not need.

The DAA Magnetic Powder Check assembles onto a station immediately after your powder dropper, screwing into a standard die thread 7/8-14 station. However, unlike other powder check systems, the DAA product does not require a dedicated hole drilled through the tool head next to the station! It can be used on ANY progressive reloader which has an available station after the powder drop.

A powder-check does require the use of a station in your toolhead, so if you do not currently have an available station, you may need to combine your seating and crimping into one station using a 2-in-1 seat/crimp die to free up a station. These too are available from DAA.

The DAA Magnetic Powder Check is activated off the top rim of the case rather than the base of the shell plate, this means that no alarm will sound if no case is present. The powder sensing plunger enters into the case mouth to rest on top of the charge and measure it’s height, sounding an alarm if the  powder level is either too low or too high. It provides both an audible beep alarm as well as a bright red LED light when triggered.

The DAA Magnetic Powder Check includes a replacement short plunger, suitable for use with rifle ammo. When using for rifle, simply replace the plunger, and assemble the steel rod upside down, using the end without the shoe to enter into the small case mouth. Parts included make this suitable to use with all pistol ammo (9mm and up) and for rifle from .223 and larger.

It’s compact size, slick and modern design, ease of setup and adjustability, make the DAA Magnetic Powder Check the perfect accessory for your toolhead!

Summary of features and advantages:

  • Can be used on all toolheads, does not require a dedicated hole near station.
  • Assembles onto any 7/8-14 station
  • Provides both an audible AND a visual alarms
  • Can be adjusted for sensitivity, to avoid false alarms
  • Includes all parts for both rifle and pistol use
  • Activates off the rim of the case, so no alarm sound when no brass is present
  • Slim and compact design.
  • Quality materials. Stainless Steel Rod, with aluminum red anodized die body. Rubber coated glass-fiber reinforced nylon for electronic housing

Good engineering and debugging challenge but works great now. Second one I purchased for my 1050 5.56 setup because I liked this design better than the Dillon powder check. Having issues with the rod hitting the side of the case mouth and getting caught. I tapered the the rod tip more to clear the 5.56 case opening to try to solve this concentricity issue. Excellent device but may need some tweaking.

Once installed and adjusted to your powder charge, it works flawlessly. I've loaded 10,000 rounds between my 2 tool heads and both have worked perfectly. If I change my powder charge, I just loosen the magnet at the top of the plunger with the press ram at the top of the stroke, and in less than a minute, it's ready to go. I love this powder check and admire the simplicity yet intelligence of the design. I will use this on every tool head caliber conversion I get in the future.

Awesome product! I followed the video instructions on the install (it does come with detailed written installation instructions), and this was actually the easiest station on my Dillon XL750! It took literally 2 minutes to get it perfectly set up. It gives me such piece-of-mind that I can just reload and know that I'm not under or over charging. I tested it with only a small difference above and below the charge and with the sensitivity set at its lowest ('factory' setting) it still picked up the difference. I do like that you can adjust the sensitivity so easily with the included metric allen key. Much better design and engineering than any other option on the market. Plus, as I changed charge size, I just adjusted the magnet up or down very easily. If you are doing powder checks as a station in your reloader, get this product.

I am more of a "I can install it much easier if I can see it done" and not so much read about how to install it. So I watched the video on you tube. They work great on my 9mm and 45ACP but was a bit finicky when I tried to set it up for the .223 Remington/5.56x45 using CFE223 powder. The rod tends to rub on one side of the cartridge brass and sometimes the rod won't go all the way down to the powder. This does result in some false alarms. I also had a heck of a time dialing in the alarm area where the case with the proper amount of powder should not trip the alarm. I did notice that when the rod does go all the way to the top of the powder it sometimes goes past that point and pushes the powder aside. This sometimes results in the alarm tripping as it thinks there is not enough powder in the case. I also think the powder I'm using, (CFE223), may be part of this problem. If they could figure out some way to keep the rod from going deeper into the case due to the rod pushing the powder to the side, that would be great! All in all this is a great system and certainly worth the money.
