The machine did not work properly at first. I contacted them about it and they gave me instructions on what to do if it did not work right. They were spot on. Machine works fantastic and great customer service !!! Worth the money for the time saving for doing large runs of ammo reloading.

I have loaded about 1500 CCI SPP so far and it is working well. It took a little tweaking, watching a few videos and learning how it functions, but worth the effort. If you are reloading large quantities of ammo the primer-pro is a good investment, unless you like picking up primers one at a time...

Awesome--with CCI primers. I love this thing, but had a lot of frustration when I first got it. At least the model that I received does not like certain primers (winchester, remington) and does not work well with them at all. I found that when using these ones brands, it is much faster to go by...

I bought this item in December 2019 right when it was released. Because of the primer shortage I hadn't been able to use it until recently. DAA PRIMER-PRO Collator

Manufacturers: Double-Alpha Academy
PRIMER-PRO NOTE
Some types of primers are tacky/sticky. These may not slide well through the slots in the Primer Pro Disk or down the Exit Ramp. This can lead to a slow output rates and/or poor exit ramp/hole performance. One simple solution to this issue is to apply a little silicon to the primers before loading them into the Primer Pro, as shown  here.

Another effective solution is to periodically clean/lube the Primer Pro plastic parts using a plastic cleaner/Polish or dry lube, such as Pledge, Cockpit spray cleaner or the likes. As shown  here.

With one or the other solution applied, all types of Small Primers can successfully be used.

The Primer-Pro is available for small primers only!

Description:

US PATENT 10,718,599

--------

The PRIMER-PRO by Double-Alpha is a unique new approach to handling primers, and the solution reloaders have been waiting for!

As any reloader knows well, manually filling primer tubes can be the most time-consuming and aggravating step in the whole reloading process, and few good automated solutions exist.

Until now!

The PRIMER-PRO by Double-Alpha is an innovative patent-pending design which departs from the traditional vibratory bowl solution used by all other automated primer tube machines. The PRIMER-PRO uses a collator type solution where the primers are allowed to exit the bowl through 20 precisely formed channels, ONLY if they are orientated in the correct direction (Anvil side up). If they are Anvil down, they will not pass through the channel, and rather slide back into the bowl as their channel reaches the top of the rotation, to enter again later, correctly oriented.

This rejection-type design makes it practically impossible for a primer to enter the output channel if incorrectly orientated, making this device extremely reliable. During development, we ran many successful tests in which 100 tubes were filled (10,000 primers fed) without a single up-side-down primer!

As the primers slide down the covered output-chute, they pass through an optical sensor which counts them and stops the collator once 100 primers have been counted into the primer-tube. The electronic processor board also monitors the sensor and is programed to stop the collator if, for whatever reason, primers hang-up on the exit hole and stack up along the ramp. The collator will be stopped before the primers stack all the way up and jam the collator. In such a case, the LED will flash quickly to indicate there is a problem. Once cleared, pressing the start button again will allow the collator to run and the count will continue from where it was stopped. Or alternatively, a long press on the button will start the count a new.

One of the most innovative design solutions of the PRIMER-PRO is the Output Actuator Arm, which is activated by a lever system off the Timing Disk at the bottom of the Collator Assembly. This Output Actuator Arm slides the primers from the bottom of the ramp slide, moving them over to above the output hole, holding them there for a split second to ensure they are static, horizontal and stable, and then retracting to allow the primer to fall cleanly down into the awaiting primer tube. This dynamic solution for the exit hole greatly reduces the chance of primers hanging up while exiting into the tube, a problem common with other automated primer fillers.

The PRIMER-PRO is currently available only for Smaller Primers, and handles Small-Rifle or Small-Pistol Primers equally well. A Large primer version may be offered in the future.

One Magnetic Collar for a Dillon Primer Tube is included with the unit. A PRIMER TUBE IS NOT INCLUDED! Since the PRIMER-PRO can refill a single Primer Tube faster than you can use the previous 100 primers in any reloading press, only one tube is strictly necessary.

However additional Magnetic Collars can be purchased separately, for those who prefer to fill multiple tubes before starting their reloading session.

The unit is powder by a 12v DC power supply (dual voltage, 110-230), which ships including a suitable European and US prong set (included). The power cord is 2 meters (6ft) long, and includes an ON/OFF switch in the cable.

NOTE: Primer tube not included.

I purchased this after being so impressed with the Mr Bullet product that I run on four presses. To make this unit reliable I had to do everything the others are saying. Shimming the plate to the hopper and silicone wipe on all parts. I dislike the primer tube angle but that is more about my bench setup really. I have used Remington, Winchester and CCI primers using the same setup. Overall I guess it saves time but sadly it rarely can get a full hundred unless you over load the hopper. Since I run multiple primer types regularly I have found myself with tubs to organize all of the primers not fed but dumped from the package tray. One more thing to pay attention to that negates the time it saves me filling. If you run one primer for hundreds of rounds this might be for you. For me a backyard shooter, who loads a dozen of calibers with various primers large and small, this wasn’t worth the investment.

At least the model that I received does not like certain primers (winchester, remington) and does not work well with them at all. I found that when using these ones brands, it is much faster to go by hand than to continually restart, tap, shake, take apart and clear the primers to get it to work. With CCI, it purs along flawlessly.

After ~5000 primers it slowed down substantially, but using Pledge (as seen in a YouTube video) solved that problem quickly. I've loaded about 22k primers so far and I love this thing. Although I have case gauged my ammo yet, I do look at a lot of loaded rounds and I have not found one upside down primer in a loaded round.

Loading primer tubes manually was always the worst part of reloading for me...the Primer Pro eliminates that step completely.

We use rubbing alcohol to wipe off the back of Winchester primers (before removing from packaging tray) wait 20 seconds for them to dry then put them in the Primer-pro. I also use silicone spray on a q-tip then wipe the feel channel so they slid easily. We have 4 of these in use and have well over 100K primers through each of them. we will completely disassemble the collator and clean it once a month and they work without issue. At first I hesitated because of the price point. I reminded myself of just how much I find little enjoyment in loading primer feed tubes or APS strips. With a Primal Rights CPS installed on my bench I quickly got over the sticker shock of this item. Spent the time preparing the plastic parts, setting the magnetic collars and it was off to the races. After charging a couple thousand Federal & Winchester primers I find this accessory a welcome addition to my toys.

If you have a lathe, then a minute of parting, contouring and deburring McJ Tools Pick-Up Tubes (available on Amazon) gives you an inexpensive supply of primer feed tubes for your CPS

This is second review. Let's see if it makes the website. The product itself is poorly constructed, all plastic, and has multiple choke points. Metal screws in plastic that need constant adjustment will lead to wear and the screws nolonger functioning. The hole the the primers fall into the tube routinely has primers that get stuck even though you realign and adjust the collar. Primers feed, then don't feed, then feed with no rhyme or reason.

The 2 stars vs negative stars is for the customer service. They are fantastic. Very helpful, understanding, knowledgeable, and polite.

Great people poor product.

[DAA Reply]:
Dear Shawn,
We must disagree that this product is “poorly constructed” because it is made from plastic. It was engineered to be made from plastics, and could not easily be manufactured with any other process other than injection molding with its current design. The materials uses are all high-grade plastics and nylons and are not “cheap” by any means. There are no screws needing constant adjustment either.
I am sorry to read you are finding the Primer Pro finicky to use. most users (over 5,000 of these units are out there being used now) are happy with its performance. Not knowing the details of the issues you have experienced its hard for me to respond in detail. but certainly primers jamming on the way out of the exit hole often has to do with the primer tube in use and its chamfer. Try to run the primer Pro without a tube, dropping the primers into a cup to confirm the exit hole is good. Then, QC the edge of your primer tube hole and symmetry of it.
Depending on the type of primers in use, follow the online advice regarding cleaning/polishing the surfaces of the primer bowl to prevent the tacky primers from sticking to the that surface.

As previously stated, I did have to clean hopper with a plastic polish to get primers to stop sticking, ( I used Plexus ) and I had a lot of trouble with the vibration not effectively getting primers to flow properly. Directions stated that I might have to loosen screws holding hopper to base. Many attempts later I finally has to slip a piece of thin plastic under mounting points. I used a tiny hole punch to make hole in plastic then cut plastic squares to fit between hopper and base finally allowing primers to feed properly. I still don't really trust them to be entirely right side up, so I stand and observe primers as they feed. As I get more comfortable with unit I may be able to trust it. It does seem to be operating as intended, but the jury is still out...

Unfortunately, when I received the product, it had some of the same problems others had reported. I tried to troubleshoot myself using the guides for doing so, to no avail. I contacted DAA and they gave me some additional tips, including spraying the plastic surfaces with silicon spray. After implementing their tips, the device is now working 100% (maybe 1 flipped primer every 1000 rounds, if that). I give it 4 out of 5 stars due to the failure of the product to work right of the box for me; I didn't like that I had to struggle with and tune it. The upside is it now works as designed through about 5,000 9mm rounds with no additional maintenance or tuning necessary. Using S&B SPP.

A little expensive but it's like drinking good beer vs not good beer (no such thing as "bad" beer). Worth it! I don't have a lot of primers right now so I just dumped 4 boxes in the hopper and started playing around with it. Read the directions and wax as instructed. Works as indicated and since it's designed to fill primer tubes I'd have to give it "5 stars" because it fills primer tubes well. I have loaded very few rounds since I got it but have loaded maybe 20 pick-up tubes (and dumped them so I could play with the machine) and I haven't seen an upside down primer yet. Confident enough that I sold my most of old Dillon small primer tubes and applied the funds to pay for the Primer-Pro. If I had to do it again the only thing that I would have done differently was to get it sooner! Alex Ragulsky
