A big little match, NPSA league match in Baexem.

This past weekend I had the pleasure to attend an NPSA league match at what used to be my home range, in Baexem. While I was living in Eindhoven, Baexem was were I trained. And I must say, I still miss this heated indoor range. Especially now that the winter is here again.

This was one of the few NPSA league matches I was able to attend this year. In fact, it may have been the first? I try to shoot these local matches when I can, but the busy season and increased travel has kept me away. I also like to spend some weekends at home. You can't go shoot every week! But I am sure glad to have chosen to attend this match.

Keith Marshal and his team at the Baexem shooting centre did an amazing job to put together this great 6 stage match using only the 2 shooting halls available to them. Building 3 stages per range, in such a way that they can be swiftly converted without delay, while keeping them unique and interesting is a challenge and an art, which the team at Baexem have come to master.

2 large stages, 2 medium stages and 2 small stages made up the 100 round or so match, and the stages were excellent, all run on schedule without delays.

Remembered by all will be the "flying carpet stage" which really was rather special. The shooter sat on a "flying carpet" which was actually a motorized platform, which was pulled along by a powerful motor. The cart started moving after 2 poppers were knocked down and the shooter had to engage targets left and right, while the cart "flew" downrange. Great fun, and very well constructed. The cart ran consistently for all competitors, although the wait at the beginning, before it started to move felt more like 10 seconds than the 3 that it really was? It would have been nice to have had something to do in that time, like shoot more targets

Even though this was only a local league match, it did have an international flavor to it, with a good size group of shooters over from the UK. This great bunch of guys came over not only to shoot but to RO as well, helping the match along on schedule. It really is nice to see these shooters continue on with IPSC shooting even though they have not been able to own guns in the US for years now. It is a testimony to their love and dedication to this sport. Wonderful to see them all again.

Well, that truly was the last match of the season for me. Now there is nothing to shoot until the Florida Open in February next year. Time to reflect, make some training plans, and rest a little. Next season will be a busy one for sure.

As always I have my sponsors to thank for making this possible.
