The 2005 Czech Nationals

Hi All,

As expected it was a great pleasure to return to Tabor, Czech, the sight of last year's fantastic European championships. For me, it was a chance to put right what went wrong for me in last year's match. At the Europeans I had many gun problems, which did not really allow me to show my true form. I was set on showing that form now. My new guns are running great, back to shooting 38S (after shooting 9mm major last year) and I felt sure I could expect a problem free match.

It was a little sad not to see all the people and activity we all remember from the Europeans. This was a well attended match, but of course nothing like the Euro's. But the range was still as good, and the stage design was excellent.

Most stages did not look too complex at first glace, but when you really started to study them, you saw the multiple options there, and you had to spend some time to get it right. I had the pleasure of shooting with Eddy Testa of France, who is not only one of the best shooters in Europe, but also one of the very best tactical shooters. He kept me on my toes, because I could be sure that if I did not find the best solution - he would, and take full advantage....

the other top open shooter in the match was Czech champion Martin Kamenicek. He was not on our squad, and we had no info about his shooting. But he knew he would be doing well on his home court. And so he was. Eddy and I had a real match going. I pulled a head a little at the beginning of the match, but could not really build a big lead. Each time I won a couple of stages and took some points off Eddy, he would come back strong and win the next few.

The weather was not great, but it could have been worse too. On the first day it drizzled quite a big, and even rained hard for just over 30 minutes. we had to shoot one stage in the rain. But for the most part, it was just grey. On Sunday the sun came out, and the weather improved. It was an excellent match, well run and well organized. I enjoyed my weekend completely!
