AREA 1 USA 2002

Dear Friends,

A warm (and sticky) hello to you all from the Big Apple. I am in NY visiting with my brother for a couple of days on my way back to Europe.

I flew in from Seattle yesterday, after the Area 1 Championships was concluded in Everret. What a great match it was. Our squad was very fortunate to be scheduled to shot on Friday and Saturday, not on Sunday, when the fine weather we were having suddenly changed and it started to rain heavily. By then, we were done shooting, and were helping to RO.. At this match, all the squads were scheduled to work half a day, which was cool by most shooters.

I had a really good match this weekend. A lot better than the Area 5 last weekend. Since I have been in the US for over 10 days now, the jet leg was no longer a problem, and I was able to shoot the way I can. I did not have a perfect performance, but in all, I was satisfied. I finished a close 2nd after Max Michel, who many consider the to be the top shooter in the US today.

End results were:

Max Michel   100%

Saul Kirsch    96.8

Tomasie Travis    94.9%

Bossier Adam    92.4%

It was great to have the most famous shooter of all, Robi Leatham, on our squad. He is always so much fun to shoot with.. constantly making jokes and kidding around.. The entire match had a humor to it, as it was all set under a "Star Wars" theme, which was played up by the organizers throughout the event. On one stage, the shooter started facing up range, with a Jedi Warrior's sword in his hands. He had to spin around, cut the head off a very real looking Darth Vader dummy, before proceeding down the range to shoot the stage. Robi spun around and knocked the head off the dummy with the sword, accompanied by a loud shriek of  "Die Bitch..." It cracked everyone up.... Well, I guess you had to be there, but with the tension of a match, something like that done while shooting a big stage seems real funny. Something only Robi would do. He shot great, in the Limited 10 division, winning that easily. He was not competitive with the Open guns, but hey, he was making reloads all over the place.

I was real fun. Unfortunately, no prize table at all, just trophies...:(

Shooting in the US is always such a great learning experience. The stages are usually bigger and more complex than in Europe, and there are so many GM lever shooters (Grand Master) in a Super squad, it really drives home the importance of every split second.

I would not be able to be here without the generous support of my sponsors. Thanks you!

I head back to Europe tomorrow. My next match is the Danish Open, followed by the Czech Euro Open - and then the Europeans...

Watch your dot, and enjoy your shooting!

Best regards,

Saul Kirsch
