Hi All, For the 3rd time I made my way from Holland to Denmark for the Rooster Mountain matches. This year, there would be 2 matches back to back - a great chance to get in a 4-day match training. It's a long way, and I did have my doubts about going to the match this year, but I must say that I was pleased I did. It was a super good match - and a real pleasure to participate in. The team at Rooster did a great job on the stages this year. In the past, some of the stages were lacking in interest and round count, but not this year! While there still were some small stages, these were balance well by some really good 28-32 round courses. And they were not trivial either! Some were downright tough! And tactical! This year's Rooster mountain was also the Nordic championships. The first match was for the title in Open and Production, while the 2nd match was Standard and Revolver. This gave many the chance to come and compete in more than one discipline. Many did. One could also shoot both match in one division, which is what I decided to do, in preparation for the EC later this month. So I shot both matches in my my discipline - Open. The weather was OK - some rain - but nothing heavy until the match was over (lucky us). The stages were great - the organization was perfect, and the barbeques - as always were super!. The one thing missing from this event were another 100 or so competitors in each match. Unfortunately, the match did not succeed in attracting enough shooters. This seems to be a problem at this match. The entry fee is high (100 Euro each, with a discount for entering both matches). Also, I think the cost of travel to Denmark keeps many away. But this is unfortunate really, as it is a very good level III. Denmark is expensive, but if you look hard enough, and are willing to rough it a little, you can find accommodations for under 50 Euro. Steinar Haugli of team BUL Norway had a great match. First he shot in Open - giving me a real run, even though he does not often shoot open. He finished 2nd at 94.5% - and won the Nordic title in Open - beating the top shooter Johan Hansen of Sweden. Steinar then when on to win the Standard title as well in the second match, edging out Ralf Jensen of Denmark to win his second Nordic title of the week! Well done!!! When all was said and done - I was right to have made the trip. And I will gladly return to Rooster mountain again.
