Greetings all, With some doubt I marked the MFS2008 match on my calendar, after talking to Zoli at the UK Open. After all - it is a 1600km drive in each direction - not something I take on lightly. And I wanted to be sure that the match would be worth the effort. Zoli assured me it would be - and boy was he right! The drive was indeed a long one, but the weather was good, and with Rob sharing the driving we got there as easily as could be expected, after stopping half way near the Austrian border. On the way back we would drive through the night, to avoid Monday traffic, and make the trip back in one sitting - a very long 17hr sitting... The range was easy to find, with the help of the clear instructions and GPS coordinates posted on the top-notch website, and we were there by 4pm on Friday afternoon, to have time to look at the stages, and decide on where we would place the DAA booth. One quick look over the stages was enough to convince me that this was one of the toughest matches I have seen in a long while! Lots of tight leans around barricades, very low shooting ports mid stage, and a whole array of speed traps, in the form of partial targets and lots of penalties. It would not be an easy match at all! The field in Open class was a little light, but myself and Martin Kamenicek had a good match going - fighting each other for each point throughout the event. I was protecting a slight lead, right up to the 2nd to last stage - where an extraction problem cost me some 4 seconds, and a ton of points. This was enough to give Martin the win, who shot a solid match, except for a couple of misses on the last stage - a virgina count strong hand - shot at partial targets at almost 20m! (Did I say already this was a tough match?) Adam Tyc dominated production, Gregory Midgley of the STI EURO TEAM fought a tight battle to victory over Czech top shooter Znamencek Petr. In all, over 150 shooters from a dozen nations or more competing in this super event. my congratulations to Zoltan Vincze for an excellent match - and some of the best stages I've had the pleasure to shoot this year! These were the results: Open: Standard: Production: As always I have my sponsors to thank for their support STI International Fiocchi Hornady Competitive Edge Dynamics (CED) Aimpoint Vihtavuori MSA Sordin Until the next time I wish you all excellent shooting.
